Unfortunately, very often, the real quality of these displays is as far from the quality of the original raw, as the quality of a reproduction of some painting in a cheap magazine is far from the quality of the painting itself. Maybe it's because the file open dialog is like a small version of Explorer Anyway, there has to be a way to open the Photo viewer correctly, since the Explorer can do it. Navigate to the location on your computer where your image is stored. The fact my external drive shows these.
Why is it changing just my raw files? I cant get the thumbnails for my raws to preview. They're called tabbed documents because each document has its own tab along the top. I've attached to images of responses to this effort. But when I open the images in ufraw they show up with only the left part of the image and all a fluorescent green color, but they are fine with Canon's software. I've looked all over and can't figure out how to do this anywhere. The good news is that it was free, and you can download other options until you find the one that has all the benefits and features you are looking for to be able to create the images you want.

Thank you Russell There is a relatively easy work around to install the Windows 8 camera codec into W10 so that you can view raw files in explorer and photo viewer. So not only do you have reason to not complain, you may gloat a little if that is your style.
I'm shooting on a Canon 1100D rebel 3 and I'm using a mac. So you're going to have to force thumbnail creation. As for a reset-to-default button I would much prefer it if you had the option to name and save setups individually, I like my landscapes in a particular style and being able to call it up from a list would be brilliant! So I appreciate all the info you've made available through this site. I would be grateful to you. So, even if you chose to display image thumbnails within Explorer, all you'd get is icons showing the application you've associated with that file type.
So even if you've been using Photoshop for years, there's something new to learn. You can always leave it available and just associate your image files with a different app. If you're lucky and your model is supported, and you're running Vista or Windows 7, download and install the codec. And for Linux folks, instructions for installing are as vast as there are flavors of Linux. I have just updated to windows 10 from windows 7 and at the time of win7 I download windows camera codec pack and it worked, but for win10 it doesn't.
