Ignition timing should be 10-14 degrees at 650-800 rpm. Okay basically I pulled my cylinder head off to replace the head gasket and in rush of doing this i forgot to make my timing marks on the timing chain. It is what it is. Remove timing chain and camshaft sprocket. Install and tighten the head-to-cover and the pan-to-cover bolts. Remove chain guide and tensioner.
Oil pressure is low: The tensioners that keep the timing chain tight are operated by oil pressure so if your oil pressure is low then the tensioner will not be working properly hence your chain will flap around and hit the guides. Align silver timing chain link with punch mark on sprocket. Did the water pump fail or the thermostat stick? As long as you put the markers on the chain where they belong, you should have the idler in the right position since both correlate to the rotation of the idler. I had to replace the water pump and upon doing so, my dad attempted to remove the crankshaft pulley becuase the haynes manual said to. If its out of spec, make sure you installed your distributor correctly and rotate your distributor accordingly to retard or advance timing. Setting the timing on any ka24de write-up will be fine there are tons out there.
